Question by gurl2work: Should I go get a breast reduction or just go see a chiropractor?
I am 22 years old. Has had 4 kids… My breast are a size 38 E… I have had 8 epidurals… and 1 spinal tap… My back is in sooo sooo much pain.. like I cry just sitting here cause it hurts so bad. Im nervous about breast reduction but I hear once you go to a chiropractor you pretty much have to go the rest of your life… Help please:(
Ok apparently i am a 44 E

Best answer:

Answer by Kim
I would suggest a breast reduction. A chiropractor may be very good with your back, but he won’t be removing the source of the problem so there’s not too much he can do. If your back still hurts after your breast reduction, then try the chiropractor.

Question by : Is a osteopath better than a chiropractor?
I go to chiropractors and they all seem to just jerk me around. they just go all around an area I need work on and draw it out longer than needed is this normal?
does a osteopath work differently?

Best answer:

Answer by Lightning
It depends on the Chiropractor and the osteopath, but generally, yes we do work differently.
It also depends which country you are in.
In the USA Osteopaths are all Doctors. 95% do little or no Osteopathy at all. Only 5% do regular hands on manual medicine.

Chiro’s tend to do short lists of 5 – 10 minutes manipulation. They will often pack the treatments out with eletro-therapy and some will combine their treatments with a massage therapist working on you as well.
many will have 3 or 4 treatment rooms on the go at once.

Osteo’s tend to do 1/2 hour treatments with a combination of articulation, soft tissue techniques, and adjustments. Many will do Cranial and Visceral techniques as well.
We tend to be branded as Structural, cranial or visceral in our approach. many osteopaths like me will do a combination of all 3 types of techniques. Some will exclusively do only 1 type.

Some Chiropractors work very much like Osteopaths.
I know of one in Texas that practices 1/2 hour list and pretty much does everything himself.
Some osteopaths will work a lot like chiropractors (like my competitor).
I have done post grad training in Ultrasound and laser modalities. I have to say i found they worked well but I wasn’t sufficiently impressed with the results to spend thousands of dollars on equipment although If i worked for a clinic that already had these machines I would use them.

My main competitor in town has a treatment model which centres around 15 minutes of shaitsu massage from another practitioner and some manipulations from him once thats done. He works 2 rooms at once.
This seems more like a business model to me rather than a treatment model and I lothe it.
Compare that to the way I work where I do all the techniques and spend the whole treatment time with that patient and they have my full attention.
My range of techniques is not limited to massage and a few cracks and is far more comprehensive so they improve more rapidly.

He wonders why all the new patients are coming to my clinic and all he is left with is his loyal following…..
I’m happy to say in NZ very few osteopaths work like my competitor. I can’t speak for the chiropractic profession.

Edit:
The only thing I can agree with in the blog form the other user that answered so far is we are unrepentant about what we do. We are unrepentant because we help a lot of people!
The university I trained at ranks 48th in the top 100 UK universities.
I did indeed leave school at 16 and gain entry to this prestigious university but only after doing an access course in science (which is the equivalent to 2 A levels in Science). Although he’s been told this countless times he’s choose to ignore it because he ‘Can’t lie straight in bed’ as we say in the antipodies (meaning he is pathologically dishonest).

Noe of us trained as Doctors so we don’t prescribe meds or do surgery. Moves have been made to gives us limited prescription rights which I have always voted against because our rate of death from direct intervention will increase if we do as will our insurance premiums. Both these factors will become more on a par with the medical profession

I suggest you ignore him. He’s indicated in other answers that he has a medical condition which he hides behind to justify his extreme arrogance and belligerence.
I’n reality he’s a victim of the British class system and jealous of success because although he has the intellectual capacity to succeed he has no social skill and doesn’t understand this is important to get a job more demanding than night watchman. Effectively he’s a failure in life. Rather than reflect on himself he finds it easier to put others down to make himself feel better.

NB. All UK and Antipodean Govenments give us tittle protection and Primary care practitioner status which we are examined on prior to it being awarded.
In the Antipodies we are fully entitled to use the Honorary title Doctor although most of us don’t bother.
My GP prefers I call him “Rob” rather than “Doctor”. Its only right we follow suit with our professional colleagues.

Ignore the Troll.
He knows almost nothing about conventional medicine and even less about Osteopathy.
He’s often found trolling the boards.
He was attacking Homeopathy yesterday…
Oh look he’s back onto slagging off Non US Osteopaths….

Sad……

Very very Sad indeed.

Question by piefaceis kool: Should I be a maximized living chiropractor?
I go to a maximized living chiropractor and it’s really interesting, got any thoughts?
It’s sad that I have not one good answer, maximized living is not a scam

Best answer:

Answer by Nate
I have no idea what that is. If you’re treating anything other than uncomplicated acute lower back pain, it isn’t evidence based.

Edit: Helllllo there.

Edit: “there is only one kind of chiropractor, the kind that fulfills it’s sole purpose, the correction of the cause of subluxation produced nerve interference. to the extent they do this, they meet the definition of being a chiropractor. many who call themselves one fail to meet this standard. anyone who calls it some sort of back or neck therapy is a complete ignoramus or a liar.”

Question by Patricia: Why would a chiropractor “adjust” a healthy 13-month old baby?
My healthy 13-month old granddaughter went with her mother to a chiropractor. Her mother told me that the baby had an adjustment, too, but she didn’t see what the doc did. I’m very ignorant about chiropractors – can someone help?

Best answer:

Answer by 20 Year Nurse
Anyone who would let a chirpractor touch a 13 month old baby is a pure idiot. Especially if she is healthy, what is there to “adjust”?
This practice on children is getting entirely too common and needs to stop before someone is seriously hurt.
Who cares what they did. Tell your daughter to never ever do it again!

Answer by Craig
What type of fair was this? A medical fair? A carnival?

It’s very hard to take the words of anyone other than a qualified medical professional seriously when it comes to medical diagnoses. Also, seeing a medical professional whom you trust and are comfortable with often goes a much longer way than the words of someone you’ve just met and are not certain of.

What the person at the fair was talking about was scoliosis, which refers to curvature of the spine. The most common form of scoliosis is called idiopathic scoliosis, which occurs most often in adolescents (especially girls) as they are going through puberty.

Scoliosis may be more prevalent in your age group (depending on your age). Of course, this does not mean you have scoliosis (as said earlier, I would highly doubt the testing/advice of the person at the fair).

Most cases of scoliosis are mild and don’t require treatment, but if you are truly concerned, it may make sense to see your General Practitioner first and maybe a pediatrician. There are a variety of scoliosis symptoms (one shoulder higher than the other, the waist appears uneven, the hip is higher or prominent than the other, the body tilts to one side, one leg looks shorter than the other, etc.) that a doctor can look for during a detailed physical examination.

Chiropractors focus on making adjustments (described as manipulations) to the spine, for the purposes of treating misaligned vertebra and joint dysfunction, and providing relief of back pain, neck pain and other symptoms. Some chiropractors treat scoliosis by adjusting the spine, but chiropractic treatment may be something that is considered further along the process.

Check out the resources below for more information on scoliosis and chiropractic care. Best wishes.
